How to Care for Your Balloons and Extend Their Lifespan

General Balloon Care

Avoid direct sunlight
Heat and UV rays can cause balloons to pop or lose color faster. Keep balloons in cool, shaded areas.

Control the temperature
Balloons behave differently depending on the temperature. Heat expands them, and cold contracts them. Try to keep them in a temperature-stable environment to prevent them from deforming or bursting.

Do not place them near rough or sharp surfaces
Balloons are very delicate and any contact with a rough, sharp or pointed surface can burst them.

Clean them gently
If your balloons get dirty, clean them with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth, avoiding chemicals that may damage them.

Avoid contact with oils or creams
Grease, oils and certain chemicals can weaken latex or balloon materials, causing them to burst.

Prolongs Buoyancy

Use a special gel for balloons
If you use latex balloons and inflate them with helium, apply a special balloon gel to the inside of the balloon before inflating. This product seals the pores of the latex and can extend the buoyancy for up to 3-5 days or more.

Inflate the balloons correctly
Don't overinflate them as this increases the likelihood of them bursting. Don't let them get too loose either as they will lose their shape quickly.

Combine latex balloons with foil balloons
Foil balloons last much longer when inflated than latex balloons, and together they can create longer lasting decorations.

Use tapes and counterweights
Make sure to use ribbons to prevent the helium balloons from escaping, and add weights to keep them in place.

Specific Care According to the Type of Balloon

Latex Balloons: These are biodegradable, but also the most delicate. Keep them away from moisture and use balloon gel if necessary. If you don't inflate them with helium, you can treat them with an external sealant to protect them from wear and tear.

Foil Balloons: These are more durable and can stay afloat for up to 1-2 weeks with helium. If they lose a little helium, you can re-inflate them (if they have an automatic valve). Do not expose them to extreme heat, as they may burst at the seams.

Organic Balloons (Arches or Garlands): If you are making helium-free balloon arrangements, spray the balloons with a specialized product like Balloon Shine or use a cloth with a little mineral oil to keep the color vibrant and prevent them from fading.

  • Cover the balloons with nets or mesh if they are outdoors.

This will prevent the wind from damaging them.

  • Use appropriate colors

Light colors tend to last longer in the sun than dark ones, as the latter absorb more heat.

  • Protect your night decorations

If you're hosting an event at night, add LED lights inside the balloons for a spectacular, risk-free effect.
